Milwaukee ‘Brewers Karen’ video sparks backlash, job loss, and stadium ban

A viral video recorded during Game 2 of the National League Championship Series between the Milwaukee Brewers and Los Angeles Dodgers has caused major backlash after capturing a Brewers fan making a racially charged remark toward another spectator. The incident, which took place at American Family Field, shows a woman identified as Shannon Kobylarczyk shouting “Let’s call ICE” toward Ricardo Fosado, a Dodgers fan of Latino heritage and a U.S. military veteran. The exchange began when Fosado turned to nearby fans and asked, “Why is everyone so quiet?” prompting taunts from the surrounding crowd. Kobylarczyk is then heard saying, “Real men drink beer,” before making the controversial comment that quickly spread online.

Fosado, who later clarified that he is a U.S. citizen and war veteran, posted the video on social media, where it gained millions of views and drew widespread criticism. In response to the viral outrage, Kobylarczyk was fired from her position at ManpowerGroup, a Milwaukee-based staffing firm, and resigned from her role on the Wisconsin board of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The Brewers organization also issued a statement condemning the behavior and announced that both Kobylarczyk and Fosado have been permanently banned from attending games at American Family Field. The team cited violations of its fan conduct policy and emphasized that it “does not condone offensive statements about race, gender, or national origin.”

The Brewers clarified, however, that Fosado’s ejection from the game was unrelated to the remarks seen in the video, citing disorderly conduct and public intoxication as the official reasons. In interviews following the incident, Fosado expressed that he was overwhelmed by the attention and noted that while Kobylarczyk’s comment was hurtful, he did not believe she should have lost her job over it.

The episode has since fueled a larger conversation about fan behavior and accountability in public spaces. Social media users have debated whether passionate sports banter can ever justify personal attacks and where the line between rivalry and harassment should be drawn. The “Brewers Karen” video has become not just a viral moment but a reminder of how words spoken in anger—especially when recorded—can have lasting real-world consequences.
