Osceola County Sheriff Marcos Lopez of Florida apologized for sharing a photo on his personal Instagram page that appeared to depict the body of murdered 13-year-old Madeline Soto.

The controversial post was made within 24 hours of the teenager's body being discovered on March 1.

Sheriff Lopez claimed it was an "accident" and insisted he intended to share a post about a visit with senior citizens.

The image in question showed clothing matching what Madeline was wearing when she disappeared on February 26 in Kissimmee.
